The state Court of Appeals ruled that a plan to build a large hog feedlot in Southeast Minnesota can move forward, according to the Pioneer Press.

The decision by a three-judge panel affirmed a vote by the Goodhue County Board in February that approved the proposed hog operation near Zumbrota.

Those against the project have been fighting it because of the concerns of odors and what they contend are high levels of toxic hydrogen sulfide at other hog farms owned by Jeff Kohlnhofer and his brothers in southern Minnesota.

The appeals court ruled, after an extensive review, that the project did not pose a risk of potential significant environmental effects. The court also said that the county approval of the project was not unreasonable or abuse of discretion.

Opponents of the project will continue to put pressure on the Kohlnhofer family to drop the plan, but the Kohnlnhofer family plans to keep it going and to get the project done.
