Special Session of Minnesota Legislature Convenes Friday Morning

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota lawmakers have been called back to the State Capitol to act on the next state budget.

Governor Tim Walz this afternoon met with Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and House Speaker Melissa Hortman to sign an agreement outlining the terms of a one-day special session to finish the work of the 2019 Minnesota Legislature based on the $48 billion framework that was agreed to on Sunday.

“I am proud that we came together across party lines to build a budget that will improve the lives of Minnesotans,” said Governor Walz. “Now it’s our responsibility to take that budget across the finish line.”

A statement from the governor’s office says Walz then issued a proclamation calling for the special session to convene at 10 o’clock Friday morning. The agreement signed today sets an adjournment deadline of 7 AM Saturday for the special session, which is needed because the budget agreement wasn’t reached in time to allow the legislature assemble and act on the actual spending bills that make up the budget.
