Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - The Rochester area will finally get some spring weather this week.

After enduring snow and below average temperatures the last two weeks, warmer weather is expected Wednesday when highs are forecast to top the 50-degree mark for the first time this year.

April has been frigid with the average temperature through Sunday measured at 20 degrees below normal. The warmest it’s been so far this month is 36 degrees.

Saturday’s low temperature at the Rochester airport was 8 degrees, breaking the previous record of 9 set in 1936. The high on Saturday was 29, which also tied the record for the coldest maximum temperature for the date. Sunday’s low of 9 degrees tied the record for the date, set in 1997. The National Weather Service says that also tied the latest date during spring that the temperature fell into the single digits.

Last Wednesday, the city set one weather record and tied another. The low temperature of 6 degrees tied the April 4th record. The high temperature Wednesday was 23 degrees, the lowest high temperature for the date.

Enjoy the brief warm up as colder air is expected to return this coming weekend.
