My wife and I love to watch House Hunters on HGTV and its various spin-off shows, like Island Life, Hawaii Life and others. So imagine our surprise when a family from right here in southeast Minnesota made an appearance on Sunday night!

We were just about to watch the HGTV show, Caribbean Life, so we hit the info button on our remote to see what this episode was about. It said a Minnesota family was searching for a new island home in the Caribbean. Curious about just where this Minnesota was from, we kept watching. And a few seconds later, we found out the Doty family, of St. Charles, would be featured.

"Get out," I said to my wife. "They're really from right here in St. Charles?!?" Turns out, they were. "Norm and Tami Doty have three daughters, according to the show description. And the family has decided to move to Placencia, Belize – a place the girls can return to during the long Minnesota winters," a story in BringMeTheNews said.

ABC-6 has more on the story of the Doty's, and how they ended up on a national show Sunday night. (They said they almost didn't make it on the show, as another family was going to be featured first, but backed out.) The Doty's also told ABC-6 that while they did buy their home in Belize, they don't plan on moving there full time until their youngest daughter graduates from high school.
