My wife spent a week on the Outer Banks in North Carolina and were on our making our way back home on Sunday. Attempting to catch our connecting flight to Minneapolis, we were hoofing it across the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and were midway through concourse B when I saw something I hadn't encountered before: a guy relieving himself, right there in the waiting area, out in the open, next to a TV monitor. Nice!

I had heard several people loudly yell, "Security!" as we were approaching the area. And, let me tell you, these days, that tends to get your attention when you're in an airport. The entire concourse seemed to grind to a halt as everyone stood there and tried to comprehend what was going on. You just don't see people taking a leak right out in the open-- not on the side of the building or in a corner, or bush outside-- but right out there in the waiting area, so it was a took awhile for me to realize what he was doing. Meanwhile, the guy apparently REALLY had to go, because he kept on, uh, going-- right there, out in the open.

We had to move on to our gate to catch our flight back to Minneapolis so we couldn't stick around to see what happened next, but people next to us said airport police detained the man and were waiting for the local police to arrive. The Charlotte airport has been pretty busy, at least the two times I've flown there, but there always appeared to be plenty of restrooms to take care of the times you've gotta, uh, go.  I'm not sure what caused this guy to do what he did, but I hope the authorities in North Carolina throw the book at him!
