This error didn't happen on the field, but it did concern a big milestone at Target Field here in Minnesota!

If you're like me, it still seems like the Twins just recently moved into Target Field. (It doesn't seem like it was all that long ago that we were still watching Joe Mauer and crew inside the Metrodome, either.) But, as it turns out, the Twins are starting their 12th season playing inside the friendly confines of Target Field already!

That's right, Target Field officially opened in April of 2010, when the Twins hosted the Boston Red Sox. The Twins are understandably proud of Target Field and have also been tracking all sorts of statistics about their home field.

Like, for instance, how many home runs Twins players have hit there. And, sure enough, eagle-eyed Twins stats fans knew they were coming up on a major home run milestone: the 1,000th home run hit by the Twins inside Target Field.

In fact, the team announced last Sunday (May 15th, 2022) that a home run Byron Buxton knocked out of the park during the 4th inning of their game with the Cleveland Guardians was, in fact, the 1,000th home run they'd hit at Target Field.

But... they were wrong.

At least, according to this Twins Daily story. It explained the error the Twins made when counting those 1,000 round-trippers, which was originally noted by the Twitter site TwinsDingers:

They actually included a home run hit by Miguel Sanó in April of 2018 during the 2018 Puerto Rico Series in their official count. During this series, the Twins played Cleveland, and the Twins were the designated home team. Thus, while it was indeed a home run the Twins hit as the home team, it was not at home sweet home Target Field.

Whoops! Twins Daily went on to note that the team DID correct the error. So as the Target Field home run tally sits at 999, the next chance the Twins have to actually hit that magical 1,000th home run at Target Field would now be Monday, May 23rd, when they return home to take on the Detroit Tigers.
