Late spring and early summer here in Minnesota is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather's finally warm enough for us to finally head out and enjoy the great outdoors. And that doesn't just for for us humans, either.

I was out doing some 'training' for the upcoming Insane Inflatable 5K, which my wife and I are running in next Saturday. (We're doing the 12p wave, and you can still join us-- get all the information HERE) I was on the Cascade Trail, which is a few miles from our house in northwest Rochester.

While I met a few fellow runners and a couple of folks enjoying the trail (which really is pretty scenic, and a great place to go running), I also encountered this family of Canadian geese.

Yep, there was mom and dad Honker along with five fuzzy little gosling Honkers, all exploring the shore around Cascade Lake. I had my headphones on while I snapped this picture, so I couldn't hear what mom and or dad was 'saying' to the little ones. I also didn't get too close-- I've heard those mom Honkers can be kind of mean, and understandably so, if you get between them and their brood.

It was kind of cool to see everyone out enjoying the beautiful morning. Now, if they could only help my with my pace for the 5K...

And, speaking of the Insane Inflatable 5K, here's a glimpse of what this year's course will look like, once it's assembled out at Rochester International Airport:
