It defies all logic for the first day of December, but apparently there is more snow in Hawaii than there is here in southeast Minnesota right now.

While we've been enjoying these unseasonably warm temperatures the past week along with plenty of warm sunshine, that wasn't the case out in Hawaii. Well, at least in parts of Hawaii, that is.

According to THIS story from the Weather Channel, earlier this week, up to 8 inches of snow was forecast to fall on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Are you kidding me? Snow?!? In Hawaii?!? Come on, man!

I didn't think it could be true, but yeah, it is.  And, the story says, it's actually not all that uncommon.

"Although it may sound strange, snowfall in Hawaii is not rare," the story says.  "It snows here every year, but only at the summits of the highest volcanoes on the Big Island – Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea – which are at an elevation above 13,000 feet, as well as Haleakala on the island of Maui, which is at an elevation of just over 10,000 feet," the story continued.

So, it's not like Waikiki Beach in Honolulu is suddenly covered in white snow instead of its usual white sand. But still, it's weird to think there's more snow there than there is here in Minnesota in December, isn't it?

Meanwhile, our trend of warm weather looks like it'll continue through the weekend, but colder air is set to invade Minnesota next Tuesday.
