Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A significant milestone on a major Rochester building project will take place on Wednesday.

Rochester-based Weis Builders will be hosting the “topping off” ceremony at the Berkman Apartments development just west of St. Marys Hospital(11:30-1:15). The event marks the placement of the final beam on the highest point of the 13-story building.

The Berkman was originally called the Alatus project while it was going the approval process and is scheduled to be completed in late this year or in early 2020. The $115 million development includes almost 350 apartments and over 35 townhomes, along over 550 parking spaces and over 20,000 square feet of retail and office space.

The new building is named after Daisy Louise Berkman Plummer, the wife of the famous Dr. Henry Plummer of the Mayo Clinic’s early days.
