Will Minnesota Be Affected By U.S. Pumpkin Shortage This Year?
Some parts of the country are bracing themselves for a shortage of pumpkins this fall, but will Minnesota be affected?
Sure, 2020, with everything else you've thrown at us, can we now expect a shortage of pumpkins for Halloween and pie filling for Thanksgiving while we're at it too? That's the word across parts of the U.S. this fall that are being hit by heavy rains and other rough weather that could impact the availability of pumpkins this year.
This story from CBS-17 TV in North Carolina-- which has been hit by heavy rains from several tropical storms and hurricanes so far this year-- is already seeing a tight market for pumpkins. (They were hesitant to call it a 'shortage,' but mentioned that the market would be 'tight' for getting a good-quality pumpkin.)
But what about here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes? Are we looking at either a 'tight' market for pumpkins or an all-out shortage? Well, here's a rare display of GOOD news: Things are looking GREAT for pumpkins here in the Bold North this year.
In fact, according to this story from GrowingProduce, things are looking pretty darn good here in Minnesota. The story talked to Annie Klodd, who is an Extension Educator – Fruit and Vegetable Production at the University of Minnesota.
And she says local growers across the North Star State are reporting good news from the field. "Of those she just spoke with about this topic, all were on the same page: 'We’re having about the best crop we could hope for...' Annie said in the story.
So, scratch not being able to find a pumpkin off your list of things to worry about this fall. And speaking of fall, keep scrolling to find some way-cool pictures that really do prove that fall just might be the best time of year here in Minnesota!
