That's something you don't see everyday, especially in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has shared a photo of what it says is a "rare species" of moose roaming around a wooded area.

Where Was The Rare Moose Sighted?

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, moose have been spotted in Wisconsin in the past. The one featured in the photo was the first such reported sighting of 2023.

Moose sighting are rare. It may be ever more of a rarity to see a photo on one that is this clear.

Milwaukee's Fox 6 News is reporting the moose was seen in Vilas County. The area is in the far northern part of Wisconsin that borders Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

How Did The Capture A Clear Photo Of The Moose?

The great image of the moose was caught on a trail cam that is part of a special program run by the Wisconsin Department Of Natural Resources.

Snapshot Wisconsin allows the department to monitor wildlife through a network of trail cameras across the state.

"The project provides data needed for wildlife management decision support," the department says on its website. "It is also a unique opportunity for individuals, families and students to get involved in monitoring the state's valuable natural resources."
