Youth Wrestlers From SE Minnesota May Have Been Exposed To Covid
St Paul (KROC AM News) - Youth wrestlers from Olmsted and several southeast Minnesota counties who took part in a recent tournament are being asked to be tested immediately for COVID-19.
So is everyone else who was at the Northland Youth Wrestling Association that was held in Sioux Falls, SD from March 31 to April 3.
The event that was attended by more than 2,000 wrestlers and fans has been linked to a Covid outbreak.
The state Health Dept. says it is “monitoring a growing COVID-19 outbreak among people who attended the tournament.”
As of Monday morning, 16 Minnesota cases had been linked to the event.
The department says:
“Due to the close proximity and contact with opponents, wrestling carries a high risk for transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19. Given the reported lack of mitigation, such as masking and social distancing, among participants and spectators at the tournament, health officials warn there is an increased risk of COVID-19 from the event.”
A total of 64 teams from at least 52 Minnesota counties participated in the tournament. The counties in southeast Minnesota counties include:
Dodge, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca.
The department says “tournament participants, their families, and other spectators should get tested now.”
