As Rochester's Christmas Station, we often get asked questions about the music. Where'd this song come from, who sang that song? The one thing people have never asked me, is where the song White Christmas came from. They don't ask, because they know...and they tell me all the time.

And they're wrong. I don't say to be mean, but to bust a Christmas Myth. The Song White Christmas, written way back in the day did not come from the movie White Christmas.

But Its Literally IN the Movie White Christmas!

It most certainly is in White Christmas, the 1954 musical with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen, and Dean Jagger. Bing Crosby sang White Christmas in White Christmas...but he'd sung it in a movie before White Christmas came out, too.

1942's Holiday Inn, is a movie about an inn that's only open on holidays and Bing Crosby sang "White Christmas" in a scene set in the summer (because he's dreaming of a white Christmas).

Fun Note: Bing Crosby also sang White Christmas on a radio show 13 years before White Christmas, and in the 1946 movie, Blue Skies. But the song didn't stick until he sang it in White Christmas. From then on it's been considered a Christmas Classic.
