While in Puerto Rico, one of the coolest placest we stopped was the Bacardi Distillery: the largest rum distillery in the world.  Just a short ferry ride, and a quick (shady) trip in a van, we arrived at the entrance!  It was breathtaking....

They told us to head over to the bar and enjoy two free drinks made with one of the several flavored rums.  We then jumped on the trolley and got the grand tour.  They said 100,000 gallons of rum are made there every 24 hours!!!

We learned so much about the history of the Bacardi family.  It's still a family owned company, on it's 5th generation of owners.  Everybody was curious of the bat symbol.  The bat had always been a symbol of good fortune, so when Doña Amalia Bacardí spotted fruit bats in the family’s distillery, she insisted it be used as their symbol.  The bat symbol is seen on quite literally everything throughout the whole tour.  They also taught us how to make the Bacardi classics: Cuba Libre, Mojito, and the original Daquiri.
