Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The chancellor of the Minnesota State College and Universities system (MnSCU) responded Tuesday to a letter his office received that is critical of the leadership of the president of Rochester Community and Technical College.

The letter was sent to the MnSCU office on behalf of an unknown number of RCTC students, faculty and staff. The letter voices their concerns with the current atmosphere at the school under the leadership of President Leslie McClellon.

In response to an inquiry about the letter, MnSCU Communication and Media Director Doug Anderson released this statement from MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone:

“I am aware of the concerns that have been expressed. From my perspective, the campus community is engaging in open and honest discussion about some very important and very sensitive issues, and I support the ongoing dialogue. RCTC is in sound financial health and will continue to play a critical role in the region, providing an opportunity for students to have a brighter future and helping to deliver the talent that both Rochester and Minnesota need.”

It’s not known at this point if there will be an official response to those who sent the letter.

McClellon was appointed on July 1st last year, one year after the retirement of longtime RCTC President Donald Supalla. Before the appointment, she had served as vice president of student affairs at the Community College of Denver since 2010.
