I had the opportunity several years ago to speak to some young ladies about being a woman in media. Ever since then, this group continues to amaze me with their generosity and big hearts. See what they've been up to for the past few months.

As a former girl scout, nothing makes me happier than seeing a successful organization continue to grow, helping strengthen girls world wide.

This particular group of lovely young ladies, Ashley Walker, Jennifer Ryno and Alyssa Willis from troop # 40981 wanted to bring attention to something many of us probably don't even think about. Sadly, many of us let our busy schedule get in the way of us doing certain things. For example, during the holidays, so many people will go visit the nursing home and sing carols, brightening the day for seniors. But, as we are nearing June, imagine how much those visits have declined over the past few months! When's the last time you visited a nursing home when it WASN'T during the holidays (specifically people who don't have a family member there)? I'm not going to lie, I can't remember when I did. Not only that, the population of local nursing homes are growing tremendously as Rochester becomes more and more of a medical destination.

So what did these girls do?

"We came together to bring joy to seniors through our music." They have been visiting Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home on a regular basis, playing music for the residents. These 8th graders are new to their instruments with one playing the violin, one on the viola, and the other on the cello.

Bravo girls!!!
