Train Derailment in Ellendale Leads to Evacuations
Ellendale, MN (KROC AM News) - Officials in the small Steele County town of Ellendale are dealing with a train derailment that has led to some evacuations and the cancellation of classes in the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva school district.
The district’s elementary school is located in Ellendale, about 100 yards from the railroad tracks.The district was notified around 6:45 this morning.
First responders requested the Rochester Fire Department HAZMAT Team assist in the situation.
Ellendale is located west of Blooming Prairie and south of Owatonna, near I-35. The tracks are located on the east side of the town.
Preliminary information indicates four cars were involved. No word yet if any chemicals were involved.
