Have you ever had one of those moments where you say something you wish you could take back?  I am that person in the family who doesn't always have the best filter.  Example...once when I was at my in-laws, I asked who was in the urn that was sitting on a shelf in the dining room.

It wasn't an urn.  It was just a decorative vase.  I had, what the experts call, "Foot In Mouth Syndrome".

This Thanksgiving, as you are enjoying pumpkin pie, turkey, and all of the delicious sides, do this if you are prone to saying things you shouldn't...keep stuffing your mouth with food.  Or, if you want to be brave and hope that THIS is the year you don't say something you regret, follow the list below of 18 things to NEVER say at Thanksgiving as a challenge.  Use it as a guide for yourself...or text it to that family member who needs it.  (You know who they are.)

18 Things You Should Never Say at a Thanksgiving Table in Minnesota

Thanksgiving 2025 is going to be a busy one!  According to AAA, about 81.8 milion Americans are going to be going over the river and through the woods to see family.  If the roads seem extra busy, it is because about 73 million people are picking a car for those travel arrangements.

If you are anxious or feeling that stress of the holiday season, know that these environmental triggers could lead you to a "foot in mouth" situation.  If it happens, don't worry, 100% of us say something stupid at least once in our lifetime.  To help avoid having these mis-sayings happen (like my urn conversation) this Thanksgiving, the ADDA recommends that you check your emotional state prior to the big gathering.

If you don't want to dig that deep before you dig into some mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving, just use the guidelines below to see what topics you should avoid.

18 Things That You Shouldn't Say at the Thanksgiving Table

Ah, Thanksgiving! When families come together all over Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois to give thanks and eat a whole bunch of food. It's usually all fun and smiles unless that ONE family member who has no filter decides to show up. You just never know what they will say and unfortunately, that's the problem! To help alleviate any unnecessary drama this year, just text your family member that causes issues with their mouth and pass along this list of "Things NOT to Say at the Thanksgiving Table".
