A Burger So Hot, It Put 5 People In The Hospital?!

My wife and I like spicy foods-- the hotter the better, usually. But I'm not sure even WE would like THIS burger-- seeing as five people who attempted to eat it, ended up in the hospital.

The Daily Mail has the story of the XXX Hot Chilli Burger - dubbed the hottest dish in Britain, and is so hot, it's served to those over age 18 only at Burger Off in Hove, Sussex, England.

The burger is topped with chili sauce that is twice as hot as pepper spray. Five people were hospitalized after trying to down burger recently-- and all of the victims had signed waivers saying they knew how hot the burger actually was.

The burger's sauce measures a whopping 9.2 million on the Scoville scale-- a measure of the 'hotness' of various foods. A jalapeno pepper, for instance, is 2,500.

Restaurant owner Nick Gambardella tells the Daily Mail he was 'amazed' that he was allowed to sell such a spicy burger, but added, "It has been a massive hit with the customers," Gambardella said. "I have to admit I’ve not dared to try one of these burgers myself as they are so spicy!"

So far, Garbardella said, only 59 out of 3,000 challengers have succeeded in eating the entire dish.
