Austin Will Be Home To Two Breweries Offering New Hemp Beer
In a teasing announcement to social media, Duluth and Austin MN-based cannabis company Superior Cannabis Company announced that two Southern Minnesota breweries have teamed up with Superior Cannabis to release two district hemp-based beers later this week.
The breweries involved are Gravity Storm and Angry Hog Brewery and Taproom, both based in Austin.
Other than that, there isn't a whole lot else to go on. It's not clear as to what the beers will be, or if they will be available strictly on tap or in crowler form.
While I looked around online for hemp beer, which is fairly common, one article from CraftBeer.com in 2018 went a little more in-depth with what rules/regulations a hemp-based beer must hurdle before coming to market in many cases.
The hemp going into the beer must "contain less than one percent THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which LiveScience.com defines as the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects. Hemp seeds, seed oil, and stalk aren’t considered a controlled substance." For brewers who are going to use hemp in their brew must follow state rules in regards to it, like:
- Brewers will need to obtain a lab analysis for the hemp component which can be a prolonged process.
- The word “hemp” cannot be used unless it’s in the process: (“Ale Brewed with Hemp seed” vs. “Hemp Beer.”)
Hemp Wiki's website goes over some of the more general questions about all things hemp. When it comes to hemp beer the website states that the brew "incorporates parts of the hemp plant into the flavoring process. It’s not actually brewed from hemp, it just uses natural oils from the plant to add complexity to the flavor. These natural oils are called terpenes, and many plants have them, including citrus fruits and pine trees."
When they give us more to go on, I'll be happy to share. Until then, make sure you keep up to date with us, and your chances to win up to $10,000 with the $10K Stimulus Check codewords using our free app.
