Yesterday, a friend was sitting outside the North Broadway Caribou, enjoying a coffee when something awful happened. A screech of tires, crunching metal and plastic, and then silence. Two cars collided and it looked and sounded pretty bad. Then the good thing happened.

A bunch of people pulled over, got out of their cars and trucks and went to help (a lot of 'em in scrubs). Is that not the most Rochester thing you've heard this month? Lending a hand, helping out, working together. I've said it a million times on the air; this is who we are...here in Southeastern Minnesota we have incredible spirit.

Starting tomorrow (Friday the 16th) it's time to show it off a little and make sure everyone feels it.

Mayor Kim Norton declared October 16 – 25 as ‘Spirit Days’ in Rochester, ten days of service in Rochester with events, activities and service projects all aimed at promoting ‘unity’ in our community. According to a press release,

We are encouraging people to come together to help uplift the spirit of Rochester.
Spirit Days kicks off this Friday (October 16) at 7pm with a virtual online PEP Rally. This one-hour event will feature great music from the Lourdes High School Marching Band, Chorale Arts Ensemble and local Jazz duo: Dick Rohrbaugh & Eric Straubmuller.

Several groups and organizations have created events that tie-in to the "three Pillar Projects of Spirit Days: Hunger & Homelessness, Community Service and Fellowship & Companionship. These include food and clothing drives, neighborhood service projects, a pen pal project between school kids and senior citizens and more."
