Carrie Underwood and Ryan Seacrest Recall First Meeting on ‘American Idol’ in 2005
It's hard to believe, but it's been 15 years since Carrie Underwood first made a splash on hit reality show American Idol. As she and Kelly & Ryan host Ryan Seacrest (who, of course also hosts AI) recalls, their meeting sparked a long friendship — as well as a pairing of two of entertainment's most sharp-witted minds.
Seacrest called up the memory of when Underwood first came to Los Angeles for Hollywood Week "It was the first time she'd been on an airplane," Seacrest mused, adding that although the Oklahoma native may have been unseasoned at the time she was "clever" and very "quick."
"When I was talking to her for the first time, I'll never forget, you were standing outside of the Orpheum [Theatre] in downtown L.A.," he noted to Underwood. "I asked her, 'Your first time to Hollywood? First time on a plane? Have you seen any stars?"
Underwood recalled her sarcastic answer: "I said 'No, it's been really cloudy lately,'" she smirked.
"It went right over my head," laughed Seacrest, who then called for vintage footage of the actual moment to be played, much to the audience's delight.
"We were babies!" squealed Underwood, making fun of Seacrest's "frosted tips" hairstyle. Seacrest quipped, "We look like the cast of 90210-ish,"
That was just the start of a long journey for Underwood showing off her talent for comedy, as she spent a decade riffing off Brad Paisley in their roles as co-hosts for the Country Music Association Awards. This week (Nov. 13), she'll be hosting the awards show again, but with country legends Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire by her side. The ABC broadcast begins at 8PM ET and will feature three hours worth of performances and awards presentations.
