Minnesota Is About to Get Its 14th Costco Wholesale Warehouse

If you're a Costco member, there's good news this week, as the retail club just announced that it will be opening its newest store here in Minnesota this August.

How Many Costco Stores Are Currently in Minnesota?

The very first Costco store opened over 40 years ago, on September 15, 1983, in Seattle, Washington. However, the Costco Wholesale store we know today came about in 1993 after a merger with Price Club, a chain based in San Diego that pioneered the warehouse-club concept that Costco would later adopt.

Closer to home, the first modern Costco Wholesale warehouse store in Minnesota opened on October 4, 2000, in St. Louis Park. So just how many Costco warehouse stores are there in the Land of 10,000 Lakes in 2026? Well, with the addition of the newest Costco warehouse, which opened in Chaska in late 2024, Costco says there are now 13 locations currently operating across Minnesota in the following cities:

Where Minnesota's New Costco Warehouse Is Opening

Given our state's current population of about 5.8 million people, that means Minnesota has roughly one Costco location for every 414,000 residents. And now there's some good news concerning yet another Costco Warehouse in the North Star State that's set to open later this summer.

According to the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal (MSPBJ), the newest Costco Wholesale warehouse will be located in Otsego, Minnesota, and is set to open on August 14th. The MSPBJ story says the 164,000 square foot store is currently under construction along the Interstate 94 interchange at 60th Street Northeast and MacIver Avenue Northeast.

How Minnesota Compares to Other States for Costco Locations

The new store will be the tenth Costco location in the Twin Cities metro and will bring the total number of Costco Warehouse stores in Minnesota to 14. California is the state that has the most locations, with a whopping 136 Costco Warehouses scattered throughout the Golden State.

Meanwhile, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Wyoming are the only states that currently don't have any Costco locations, while our neighbors behind the Cheddar Curtain in Wisconsin have 11, and Iowa currently has 4 locations.

Out of the 13 Costco warehouse locations in Minnesota, 12 of those locations also have an attached Costco liquor store, including the Rochester location, which is now undergoing an expansion. The only two locations without Costco liquor stores are the Costco Warehouse in Eden Prairie and the Costco Minneapolis Business Center.
