Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A long list of child pornography charges filed against a Rochester man in 2017 have been dismissed but that does not mean 22-year-old William Doherty will escape prosecution.

Olmsted County prosecutors recently agreed to drop the 13 counts of possession and dissemination of pornographic works by a registered a predatory offender in order to hand over the case to the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota for prosecution. The status of the case in the federal courts is not yet known.

Doherty, who is now 24-year-olds old, was already on probation for a 2013 child pornography conviction when the charges were brought against him in the fall of 2017. Court documents indicated that over 1000 suspected child porn images were found at his home after the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant issued on the basis of a tip provided by an Internet watchdog group that targets child pornographers.
