Felony Assault Charge Pending From Rochester Road Rage Incident
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police arrested a man on a felony assault charge following what could be termed a road rage incident on Saturday.
A spokesman says 50-year-old Eric Norrie, who has an unknown address, was being pursued when driving his pickup in reverse when he slammed on the brakes and the other vehicle crashed into the front of his pickup. This occurred around 5 PM in the 1000 block of 7th Avenue Southeast.
Following the collision, Norrie allegedly got out of his pickup and bashed in the windshield of the other vehicle with a crowbar before assaulting the other driver with it. The police spokesman says both men were arrested, but the second man was later released from custody after he was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The police report on the incident says he told the responding officers that his actions were meant to contain Norrie until law enforcement arrived at the scene. The man and a woman indicated they returned to their home and found Norrie’s pickup blocking their driveway while he was taking photos of a vehicle in the driveway. Norrie told police he had been accused of a hit and run involving property damage to the other vehicle and wanted some photos of it. That led to a confrontation and efforts by the man and woman to prevent Norrie from leaving.
The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
