St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan's brief stint as acting governor ended this afternoon after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz regained consciousness following knee surgery.

Walz was placed under general anesthesia for the operation to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and temporarily transferred the power of the governor to Flanagan. A statement issued by the Governor’s Offices says, shortly after he woke up, Walz gave official notice that he had retrieved his authority in accordance to Minnesota law.

The Governor, who indicated he plans to return to his office on Monday after spending the weekend recuperating at home, thanked the healthcare professionals who cared for him and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan for "holding down the fort."
