Lakeville, MN (MinnesotaNow)- Federal authorities are investigating a fatal helicopter crash near the Twin Cities

So far limited information is available. A news release issued Saturday by the Lakeville Police Department indicates the aircraft went Saturday afternoon. 

It crashed in a non-residential and non-commercial area.

Fatal Helicopter Crash Near Lakeville Airport Saturday, Federal Authorities Investigating

The news release says the deadly helicopter crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. west of the Airlake Airport in Lakeville. 

Responding officers found the crashed aircraft in the area of Highway Ave. and 219th St. West. Authorities say there did not appear to be any survivors of the crash. 

The news release does not say how many souls were on board. Officials also did not indicate the type of helicopter that crashed. 

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were called to the scene and are leading the investigation. 

Further details are expected upon completion of the preliminary investigation by the federal agencies.
