Kwik Trip Set to Open Several New Stores In Minnesota and South Dakota

Kwik Trip has been recognized as the best gas station in the country by USA Today and has close to 900 convenience stores located all around the Midwest. Its stores are known as Kwik Trip in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, South Dakota, and Illinois and as Kwik Star in Iowa.

The chain, based in La Crosse Wisconsin, consistently receives positive reviews from customers because of its dedication to quality and service and is continuing to expand with new stores being built throughout the region.

Why is Kwik Trip only in the upper-midwest?

I asked this question on a visit to Kwik Trip's headquarters in La Crosse. A company representative explained their growth plan to me.

I was told proximity plays a vital role in Kwik Trip's expansion strategy.

The company prioritizes customer care and the freshness of its products. Each new store must be strategically located to ensure daily shipments from Kwik Trip’s main facility in La Crosse.

Kwik Trip’s La Crosse campus is remarkable in size, hosting one of the world's largest bakeries. It's where they make all their bread, donuts, and cookies.

They also make their ice cream and bottle their milk at that site with a commitment to delivering it from cow to stores within 24-48 hours.

Founded over five decades ago by Don Zietlow, Kwik Trip had a fundamental principle from the start: prioritize employee satisfaction.

Zietlow understood that by taking care of his team, they would, in turn, take care of their customers. This strategy proved successful, and Kwik Trip has flourished.

Convenience Store News says Kwik Trip will continue expanding west into South Dakota in 2024.

"The convenience store operator plans to open five new locations in the eastern part of the state (South Dakota) this year, bringing its store count to 11 sites. Three of the new stores will open in Sioux Falls, one will open in Harrisburg, and one in Brookings."
