Every single summer, I tell ya!

I step outside for approximately 37 seconds and suddenly I'm swatting at my ears, ankles, the back of my knee.

Minnesota mosquitoes are built different. They don't care if you're grilling, walking the dogs, trying to enjoy a drink on the patio, or simply taking the garbage out. They are coming for you like it is personal.

And I genuinely do not know what I did to deserve it. Is it my blood type? My tattoos? My clothing choices? The fact that I seem to have “mosquito magnet” energy written into my DNA? Whatever it is, they find me only every time. Sigh!

But here is the twist we do not always expect. As much as it feels like Minnesota should automatically win the mosquito championship trophy every year, we are actually NOT the mosquito capital of America. I knew, this blew my mind as well.

That title gets tracked annually by pest control experts at Orkin, who rank cities based on residential mosquito treatments over the past year. In other words, this is not vibes. This is data.

So... where did Minnesota land this time?

Minneapolis came in 13th on Orkin’s 2026 ranking of the most mosquito-infested cities in America. That’s actually a jump from last year’s 18th spot, which… yeah, not exactly the direction we were hoping for.

At the top of the list?
Los Angeles in the number one slot for the fifth year in a row, followed by Chicago, and New York rounding out the top three.

But, this is interesting, according to Orkin, Midwestern cities continue to see some of the fastest year-over-year growth, with Milwaukee jumping 15 spots to 23rd and Minneapolis climbing six spots.

So if it feels like mosquitoes are getting worse, you’re not imagining it.

Colors to Avoid Wearing in Minnesota Unless You Love Mosquitoes

A study by the University of Washington found that mosquitoes seem to be attracted to certain colors while ignoring others. The findings may make you rethink your summer wardrobe!

Here's a look at the colors these little bloodsuckers love and hate.
