Jimmie Allen Makes History With ‘Best Shot’ (Again)
Jimmie Allen continues to make history with his debut single "Best Shot." The song finds itself at No. 1 for a third week, returning to the top of Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
The song's success marks the longest-leading debut by a solo male country artist since Blake Shelton's “Austin” in 2001. It also is the first song by any artist to return to No. 1 on the chart, after descending, in over a decade, according to Billboard. This last happened with Jimmy Wayne's "Do You Believe Me Now" in 2008.
Jimmie Allen's Live RISERS Performance Is Irresistible
"Seeing the resurgence of ‘Best Shot’ to the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart is a testament to how great of a team I have,” Allen tells Billboard. “They have continued to fight for this song when so many others would have given up. I am so thankful to country radio and its listeners for their support. Seeing ‘Best Shot’ connect with the hearts of so many is evidence that we are a lot more alike than we are different."
"Best Shot" originally hit No. 1 on Nov. 24 and stayed there for a second consecutive week on Dec. 1. The song’s return to No. 1 after landing at No. 2 last week marks the first time a Country Airplay debut has hit No. 1 for three weeks since Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" in 2012.
Allen co-wrote "Best Shot" with Josh London and JP Williams. “Best Shot” is the first single from his debut album Mercury Lane, released in October. The song's success makes Allen the first black artist to launch a country career with a No. 1 song. He joins Darius Rucker as the only two black country singers to have debut country tracks hit No. 1 on the charts.
