Albert Lea, MN (KROC AM News) - Just a few days after first responders in Albert Lea were busy dealing with a shooting incident they had their hands full Thursday battling a large commercial structure fire.

The Albert Lea Police Dept. says one of its patrol officers discovered the fire just after 8:00 PM at 601 Main St W.

Firefighters from Austin and Glenville assisted the Albert Lea Fire Dept in battling the blaze.

The fire was brought under control about 2 hours later but Albert Lea firefighters were expected to remain at the scene to deal with possible hot spots through Friday morning. A State Fire Marshall investigator was expected at the scene sometime Friday.

There were no injuries reported but smoke from the fire became so thick police evacuated residents of 13 homes in the area. The Albert Lea PD said they were provided shelter at United Methodist Church.

It’s believed the building was a vacant warehouse.
