The video above was filmed in Kasson last weekend and shows a man confronting peaceful protesters. It was shared to multiple social media platforms and has been viewed over 100,000 times. The Kasson Police Department says the man shown in the video has apologized for his actions. The KPD provided this update on their Facebook page:

On June 12, 2020, an unfortunate incident took place in the City of Kasson. As many are aware, a group of peaceful protesters was confronted by an angry citizen and some threatening comments were made. The Kasson Police Department does not condone such actions and an investigation was started shortly after we were made aware of the incident. All parties were identified and we’ve been trying to figure out the best way to resolve this matter.

On June 16, 2020, the male subject in the video reached out to the Kasson Police Department and said he wanted to apologize to the protestors for his actions. He asked us to talk to the protesters to see if they were willing to meet with him. Later that day a meeting took place at the Kasson Police Department. An apology was extended and accepted by the protestors. A productive dialogue ensued and the matter was resolved. The protestors are not asking for criminal charges to be filed.

The Kasson Police Department would like to thank everyone who reached out to us to express their concerns about this incident. We strongly believe in the right to peacefully protest and of citizens to exercise their first amendment rights. The actions shown in the video are not consistent with the values of the Kasson Police Department and the Kasson-Mantorville community as a whole. We look forward to being part of the conversation as we work to maintain an inclusive, accepting community.
