Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic is proposing the construction of a new loading dock facility on the site of the former Day's Inn in downtown Rochester.
A land development application submitted to the city details plans for a 28,000 square foot facility that would replace an existing loading dock on the north side of the Methodist Hospital that is slated to be demolished to make room for the Mayo Clinic's planned expansion of its proton beam therapy center. The plan submitted to the city shows a pedestrian and utility tunnel under First Avenue Northwest that would connect the new loading dock to Methodist Hospital.
The proposed building would be constructed to allow for future expansion. The development application indicates a park-like space to the south of the structure can be utilized for future expansion to house retail spaces, while three additional floors can be added in the future to provide room for medical administrative offices.
The application describes the project as "an atypical looking loading dock." It states the design includes "building material finish and texture, site and landscape design, openings and class, and architectural lighting focused on the pedestrian experience along all sides of the building."
The plans will be presented to the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission at its regular meeting on December 8th.
