When you live somewhere where it snows all the time, it is very important to have a vehicle that can withstand the challenges that winter throw at it. In Minnesota, we have to worry about the extreme cold as well as a lot of snow. I was watching TV over the weekend and one of the commercials mentioned that their vehicles were tested in Minnesota. So, I did some research and found out that we have a well-known winter testing facility in the land of ten thousand lakes. It is located in Northern Minnesota in a town called Baudette, Minnesota.

The facility is called Automotive Enviro Testing. Their website says they are, "Most comprehensive and secure low-temperature testing facility in North America." What this means, is they offer a verity of ways for vehicles and equipment to test how they would withstand the winter months. They are open year-round with professional staff to maintain the conditions. I found this to be cool, the facility is used in multiple commercials and even mentioned in a few of them. Check out this video to see how some of the tests run.

Their site says they have a variety of testing facilities available and they are as follows.

  • Cold Cell at -40 degrees celsius
  • Packed Snow Oval
  • Ice VDA
  • Packed Snow VDA
  • 10 and 11 Autocross
  • Slush Pool
  • Potholes, Sine, Chatter
  • Nine Lane Hill
  • Ice and Snow Circle
  • Snow Packed VDA
  • AWD Course
  • Camber Course
  • Driving Parking Course
  • Multiple- Surface Autocross
  • Packed Snow Oval
  • Multiflex Auto Cross

It's kind of cool to think that a lot of the vehicles we drive where possible tested at this track in some capacity.
