There are so many young girls and women that have or are participating in sports around the world. Women in sports have come a long way because of Title IX. This law allows for equal opportunity for women. This was a huge game-changer for the world of sports. Personally I am super grateful for Title IX because it gave me the opportunity to play sports through college as well as play football in high school.

Each year a national committee picks a day in February to celebrate girls and women in sports. This year the date was February 5th, 2020. According to the Minnesota National Girls and Women in Sports Facebook page, there was an event in St. Paul yesterday honoring Minnesota women and girls who have had an impact on our state. On social media, the hashtag #nationalgirlsandwomeninsports have been trending across the country. Athlete have been posted pictures with the hashtag showing the impacts their sport has had on them.

Yesterday (February 5th) may have been the official day, but events throughout the country continue throughout the week. The whole goal of this campaign is to show the impact sports have on young girls and women's life. I know I would not be the person I am today if I didn't have sports in my life. That is why it is so important to me that younger generations have the opportunity to find the sport that will impact their life.
