Minnesota’s ‘Best Winter Athlete’ Doesn’t Actually Live in Minnesota
With everyone getting a case of Olympic fever these days, it's always fun to get to know the athletes on Team USA. So, a new article has compiled what it calls the Best Winter Athletes from every state. Which is kind of cool-- except that Minnesota's Best Winter Athlete doesn't actually live here in the Bold North.
Of course, we're talking here about Lindsey Vonn. She's set to compete in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games after sitting out the 2014 games in Sochi with a knee injury.
Everyone know's Vonn's an incredible skier, right? This story that lists the Best Winter Athlete from each state calls her "One of the most recognizable current Winter Olympians, set to participate in her fourth games this year. Both of her wins in alpine skiing came in 2010, winning gold in the downhill and bronze in the super G."
And just about everyone also knows she's from Minnesota too, right? Lindsey was born here in St. Paul and got her start skiing when she was all of 2 years old up at Buck Hill in Burnsville.
But, she hasn't actually lived here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes for nearly 20 years now. According to this story, Lindsey and her parents moved out to Vail, Colorado back in 2000 so Lindsey could pursue her dream of skiing in the Olympics.
Which makes sense. I mean, outside of Mouse Mountain up in Lutsen, Minnesota really doesn't have too many long mountain ski runs on which one can train for the Olympics.
And no deference to Lindsey, but isn't there another winter Olympic athlete-- one who still lives here in Minnesota-- that could be this Olympic's winner for Minnesota's Best Winter Athlete?
