Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – Over 300 unbelted motorists were cited in Olmsted County during the latest extra seat belt enforcement campaign.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and Rochester Police Department teamed up for extra seat belt enforcement from May 20th through June 2nd as part of the Click It Or Ticket campaign.

Together, the agencies ticketed 301 unbelted motorists to help them avoid a similar tragedy during the statewide Click It or Ticket extra enforcement campaign. Officers also issued five citations in Olmsted County for children were not properly secured in child safety seats.

According to the latest survey in the state, more than 92 percent of front-seat occupants are wearing their seat belt. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, those who buckle up in the front seat of a vehicle can reduce their risk of fatal injury by 45 percent.
