Minnesota is packed with adorable small towns that are perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

We really have it all: big-city energy, serene lakes, and absolutely stunning natural beauty. And let’s not forget the quaint small towns scattered across the map - each with its own unique vibe and personality.

HGTV recently went on a mission to uncover “the best kept secrets in each state.” Now, as someone born and raised in Minnesota, I was surprised to see their pick for our state - not going to lie, I haven’t even been there!

If I had to choose the best small towns in Minnesota, I’d go with Stillwater, Lake City, or Lanesboro. Surprisingly, none of these made HGTV’s list of the hidden gems in each state.

They were specifically looking for towns with quaint shops and restaurants, fascinating histories, fun experiences and natural beauty. Minnesota's pick is a town of just over 4,000 people and over 400 lakes in the area!

Experts Say This Small Minnesota Town is One of the Best in US

First, let's talk about our neighbor's best small towns. According to HGTV, Decorah is the it town for Iowa, Fish Creek for Wisconsin, and Minnesota? It’s none other than Park Rapids! Since I haven't been there, I went online to explore the town from afar.

That view though!!

Park Rapids serves as the gateway to the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Itasca State Park, making it a hotspot for outdoor adventures and cozy resorts. But what about the town itself?

According to HGTV, "go ahead, park in the middle of Main Avenue in Park Rapids. The shops and restaurants here are so popular, the town built extra-wide streets. Pick up some buttery caramels at Aunt Belle's Confectionary, browse the craft and quilt stores, or shop for cabin decor and other items."

Sounds like a small-town dream, doesn’t it?

These Are The Most Boring Cities in all of Minnesota

Road Snacks compiled a list of Minnesota’s most boring places by pinpointing the cities lacking in "exciting people." But don’t hold it against me when you see they define "boring" by your age, marital status, and whether you have kids.
