This afternoon Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas released dashcam video from the squad car that fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday morning. The video shows that the victim was on the road at the time of the crash. The 18-second clip from the squad car cuts off as soon as you see an object enter into the headlights, we know that the object in the road was 52-year-old Stephanie Wesley of Faribault.

The release stated that Sargent Peterson was going 59 miles an hour (MPH) in a 60 MPH zone at the time of the crash.

One of the reasons that the small portion of the video was released according to Sheriff Thomas was to offer transparency into the investigation. The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, and no further comment will be made at this time by the Rice County Sheriff's Office.

The press release ended with Sheriff Thomas offering up his "thoughts and prayers to the family of Ms. Wesley".

It's still unclear as to why the victim, Ms. Wesley was in the lane of traffic at the time of the fatal crash.
