Rochester Could Have Its Coldest Veteran’s Day Ever

With high temperatures expected to be only in the upper teens, southeast Minnesota could set a record for the coldest November 11th ever.

Old Man Winter has moved back into the Land of 10,000 Lakes early this year, bringing with him the Winter One-Two Punch: First the snow, then the cold. And, of course, we already got the snow last week, when we set a record at the Rochester airport with 4.1 inches of snow on Wednesday, November 6th.

And now we could be flirting with breaking the record for the coldest high temperatures ever recorded in Rochester on Veteran's Day, November 11th. According to the National Weather Service La Crosse office, the record for the Coldest High Temperature in Rochester on November 11th is 17 degrees.

Yeah, that's cold. And we could break the record fairly easily today. The NWS forecast for southeast Minnesota on Veteran's Day calls for partly sunny with blustery conditions and a chance for flurries-- and a high of 18 degrees. Which, of course, puts us close to either tieing the existing record or perhaps even setting a new one (even if its a weather record we'd probably NOT break, right?).

Last year, things weren't nearly so cold in Minnesota on Veteran's Day. The NWS says in 2018, we had an overnight low of 21 degrees and a high of 30 degrees along a few flurries. Both of which are downright balmy compared to today's frigid forecast!
