An 8th grader from Rochester will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer. Isaac Ahn won the regional spelling competition by correctly spelling the word, Environs. I googled it for you - Environs means the surrounding area or district.

The Schaeffer Acemedy posted an update on Facebook to congratulate Isaac and Eliana Lanners, who placed 1st and 2nd at the 2021 Southeast Regional Spelling Bee Finals, and said, “if this were a normal year, Isaac would be off to Washington D.C. for the National Bee. During this unusual year, however, the first few rounds of the National Bee will take place online.”

If Ahn advances through the virtual rounds he'll earn a trip to the sunshine state - The top 12 finalists from the virtual rounds are invited to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Florida for the final round.

His mom, Sharon, told ABC 6 News how proud she is of him, “ Seeing him not just the winning, it’s how much work he put into it, the discipline he learned and just the mental fortitude to get through the competition. I told him we are already so proud of you for the work that you have put in the rest whatever place he comes in is just icing on the cake."
