Minnesota Lizard Makes Bold 2026 World Cup Prediction
The finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup are set to take place this weekend, and the sea creatures at SEA LIFE at Minnesota's Mall of America have predicted which team will win the whole thing.
In case you haven't been following along, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been taking place right here in North America for the first time in over 30 years. This year's version of the international tournament, which is held every four years, was the first to be hosted by three countries: The United States, Canada, and Mexico, with games taking place across 16 cities.
SEA LIFE at Mall of America Joins World Cup Prediction
The tournament, which kicked off on June 11, featured 48 teams, the most to ever participate in a World Cup. And now, all but two of those teams have been eliminated, which features Spain taking on Argentina for the World Cup title on Sunday, July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Back here in Minnesota, the sea creatures at SEA LIFE, located in the Mall of America in Bloomington, have been following all the action and have now made their picks on which team will emerge victorious on Sunday.
Which Team Did Minnesota's Sea Creatures Pick?
With the final two teams set, SEA LIFE at Mall of America joined SEA LIFE Aquariums across America in picking the winners of the big match. A lizard at SEA LIFE at MOA quickly picked Spain to win the championship. This Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard is a species native to North Africa and the Middle East, SEA LIFE noted, so it makes sense that he might favor the team from Europe!

However, MOA's SEA LIFE lizard wasn't the only sea creature to predict that Spain is set to take the title in Sunday's World Cup match; an eel at another SEA LIFE location also predicted that Spain would win the match.

A rescued sea turtle at a fellow SEA LIFE location joined the chorus of sea creatures who think that Spain is primed to take the FIFA 2026 World Cup title, and also predicted that Spain would emerge victorious over Argentina in the final match.

Not Every Sea Creature Agrees on the Winner
However, is it a done deal that Spain will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup Winner? Not so fast, my friend. This bamboo shark, who also resides at a SEA LIFE location, is pretty sure that Argentina, not Spain, will take the title during this year's final match.

In addition to Minnesota's SEA LIFE, other SEA LIFE locations participating in predicting this year's World Cup winner included New Jersey, Kansas City, Dallas, San Antonio, and more.
SEA LIFE at MOA is just one of 50 locations in 17 countries around the world. SEA LIFE, which was founded in Scotland in 1979, says, "We aim to share our passion for the creatures of the oceans and to make our guests fall in love with them." Mission accomplished!
