St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - St. Paul police say the suspect in a car theft and high-speed chase was shot and wounded by a homeowner Tuesday morning.

A news release indicates St. Paul officers were on patrol around 10 AM when they attempted to stop a stolen vehicle and the driver fled from them at a high rate of speed. A short time later, the officers received a report that a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car and another vehicle had collided at a nearby intersection.

Witnesses reported multiple people fled from the stolen car on foot and while police were searching the neighborhood, the officers involved heard gunshots. The soon found an adult male on the ground in the yard of a home suffering from gunshot injuries. The statement says the homeowner was standing nearby with a handgun, which he surrendered to police.

The homeowner was taken to the St. Paul police headquarters to be interviewed by investigators while the suspected car thief was transported to Regions Hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
