Study Says Having This Sign Means You Have COVID-19
Every sniffle, sneeze, cough, heck even yawning in-public seems to illicit sideways glances from people. Sometimes I might even go through the list of 'known' symptoms of COVID-19 and think 'Uh-oh, did I catch it?'. A recent study conducted by Massachusetts General Hospital and King's College London was referenced online stating that there is only one sure sign that you've got COVID. That sign? A loss of taste and/or smell.
The study was referenced online by eatthis.com and states that "in 65% percent of the 18,000 known cases of COVID-19 studied a loss of taste and/or smell was the most consistent symptom present."
That same study listed other symptoms that people with COVID-19 might have being "fatigue, persistent cough, and loss of appetite."
The symptoms of COVID-19 according to the CDC are:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
The CDC goes on to list that the symptoms may begin to present themselves as soon as 2 days after exposure to up to 14 days after being exposed to the virus.
If you are experiencing, or someone you live with is experiencing any of these symptoms you should seek out your healthcare provider to be tested and quarantine to keep others safe.
The CDC lists some emergency symptoms that would require immediate attention being:
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Bluish lips or face
If these symptoms are the case you should call 9-1-1 and let the operator know what the emergency is and that the person involved may have COVID-19.
