Has this ever happened to you? You’re at the store checking out, and the person behind you has already moved into your space at the checkout keypad — before you’re even finished?

It just happened to me again earlier this week as I was checking out with our weekly haul of groceries. I had already swiped my debit card. I always like to swipe my card through the chip card reader as soon as I can, before the checker even tells me the total, in an effort to save time and keep the line moving as quickly as possible.

So, I had moved our cart ahead and was busy loading the bags back into said cart, when I noticed the couple behind me had crept up behind me (since I had moved the cart forward, mind you) and was now standing in front of the keypad.

The only problem with that is, the checker hadn’t even finished ringing up all our stuff yet. And, I still had to sign the keypad to finalize our purchase. And, then, the guy acted all put out, like I was the jerk, when I said, “Excuse me” so I could get back to the keypad and sign the receipt.

I’m all for keeping things moving, but, come on, man– I’m still here at the checkout. It’s still my turn! Back off a little, will ya? Unless, of course, you want to pay for my groceries, that is. Then, be my guest. Otherwise, let me finish, please!
