Ok, please...PLEASE...don't shoot the messenger on this one.  I know that everyone thinks that Rochester, Minnesota already has enough banks.  Well, apparently not because we are getting another one.

Check out the new bank that is opening soon in Rochester, Minnesota

I was driving over to Home Depot over the weekend and happened to see out of the corner of my eye a new sign that was up in an open area by the newer HyVee.  It was right next to the new dental office that I wrote about in August.

Wings Financial Credit Union is opening soon in Rochester, but what is it?

In case you are newbie to this bank like I am, I did a little bit of research to see what Wings Financial Credit Union is all about.  Here's what I found:

  • They have locations in Minnesota, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Washington
  • It started in 1938.
  • It was originally charted by 7 Northwest Airlines employees.
  • Technically a credit union is not the same as a bank.
  • Learn more at their website here.

Wings Financial was originally chartered by 7 Northwest Airlines employees who recognized the value of a cooperative financial institution where members help each other succeed financially. In this cooperative spirit, Wings is a not-for-profit financial institution where members are also owners. All earnings are reinvested in the credit union in the form of higher savings yields, lower loan rates, fewer and lower fees – as well as in-person, mobile and online service options.

Today, Wings gives flight to over 320,000 members’ dreams worldwide. While members often remark that Wings has a small community feel, we have the size and scale to offer superior pricing and service. At over $7.5 billion in assets, Wings is Minnesota’s largest credit union and ranks among the nation’s top 40 credit unions. - Wings Financial Credit Union website

FILL IN THE BLANK: Rochester has too many of ________.

I know you are going to put "banks" in that space already, but what else do we seem to have an excess of in Rochester?  Look through the list below and see if your answer for the blank is in the list.  (FYI...if it isn't, send me a message over at my Facebook page - Jessica On The Radio and I might add your idea to the list too!)

FILL IN THE BLANK: Rochester has way too many ________.

If someone asked you, "What does Rochester have too many of?", what would you say? I asked that question to people living in the Med City and got quite the list of answers. Some might make you laugh (cause they are true) and others may have you scratching your head a bit because this is the first time you've realized we have a few issues happening in our gorgeous city. Scroll through the list that were sent to me and see how many you agree with.

Wow! Check out how Rochester has changed throughout the years in these Google photos.

As we are soaring down Hwy 52, it is hard to imagine what life was like in our town before the Target store was built where it is today. Or the house that you live in now, at one point in town, that wasn't there. In fact, Rochester has grown so fast throughout the years, most of our houses weren't even around 50 years ago! Don't believe me? Look through these photos to get a glimpse of what Rochester was like years ago.
