Two Small Minnesota Towns Up For Best in the Midwest

Minnesota is loaded with amazing small towns that know how to make an impression, and this year, two of them are getting some well-deserved national recognition!

USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards are back, ranking the absolute best of the best across the country - including the top small towns in the Midwest.

Minnesota isn't the only state representing! A Wisconsin favorite and an Iowa classic also made the list.

Let's start with Wisconsin. Lake Geneva isn’t exactly a shocking pick. I've definitely seen it mentioned as a must-visit spot in America's Dairyland numerous times and it looks absolutely stunning!

This charming lakeside town has been a go-to retreat since the Gilded Age, when Chicago’s elite built extravagant mansions along the shore. Today, visitors can soak in the scenery on a boat tour, stroll the 20-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path, or dive into freshwater fun like paddleboarding and parasailing. - USA Today.

As for Iowa? "If you build it, they will come."

Long before "Field of Dreams" put Dyersville on the map in 1989, it was a homey small farm town with plenty of things to see and do. From the National Farm Toy Museum and racetracks to numerous parks and antique shops, there's something for everyone here. And, of course, the field and farmhouse that served as the backdrop for the famous film remain and are open for tours (and a little dreaming of seeing the ghosts of baseball’s past). - USA Today.

It’s not one of those, but honestly, it’s no surprise it made the list. Stillwater, one of my absolute favorite spots, is constantly being called a must-visit destination in Minnesota.

Stillwater, Minnesota, is a delightful river town along the St. Croix River, where in-the-know travelers go for scenic boat tours, historic charm, and plenty of fresh air. With thoughtful shops, hiking trails for all levels, and stunning river views, Stillwater offers a memorable getaway for travelers seeking a Midwestern small-town experience. - USA Today.

The other Minnesota town? Winona!

One of the stars of the Mississippi River, Winona, Minnesota, is home to top scenic attractions like Sugar Loaf Bluff and the Garvin Heights Lookout. Visitors make a point to hike in Great River Bluffs State Park and enjoy Lake Park's walking paths. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winona Ice Fest, and Midwest Music Fest bring dynamic entertainment, and showcase the town's culture and persistent charm. - USA Today.
