As they say, you can take the boy out of Wisconsin, but you can't take the Wisconsin out of the boy.

Even though I've been a proud resident of Minnesota for going on five years now, there are still sometimes I just can't shake my Wisconsin-ness-- if that's even a word.

Some elements are obvious, like during football season. Yes, I do cheer for that team in the green and gold. And for that Big 10 team that plays in Madison. (Though, to be fair, I still cheer for the Vikings and Gophers, too-- just not when they're playing the Packers or the Badgers.)

But there are other elements that sneak out here and there, as well. Like how I still forget that you can't head to the store and buy beer on Sundays here in Minnesota. And, for that matter, why you can't just buy all your beer and liquor at a grocery store, either, like you can in Wisconsin.

And speaking of beer, my penchant for the fermented malt beverage for which Wisconsin is famous (though, I certainly do love me some great Minnesota craft beers, too) reared its head again the other day. Take a look at this picture I took of a box of Slim Jim's I found at the store while checking out. Pay particular attention to the flavor of this particular package...

What flavor did you read? Did you read it as 'Beef 'n Cheese'? If you did, congratulations, you're correct. But if you're like me, however, you read that flavor as 'BEER 'n Cheese.' As in beer and cheese soup. Which is big in Wisconsin.

And which also means my Wisconsin mind is apparently always on beer, because I see it written in places it's not. Although, come to think of it, some 'beer 'n cheese'-flavored Slim Jims sound kinda good, if you ask me.  And, come on-- that 'f' in 'beef' DOES kind of look like an 'r', doesn't it?
