Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

Cat Playing Ping-Pong – And He’s Pretty Good, Too! [Video]

Our new cat, Finnegan, is an orange tabby who has a lightening paw when it comes to toys.  If we dangle one of those cat toys-on-a-string anywhere near him, he instantly swats it with his paw and then proceeds to try to drag said toy off somewhere-- if he could only get it off the string, that is.  So, I'm guessing he has the reflexes needed to also play a mean game of ping-pong, like this cat...

If You’re Heading South On US-52, Rochester Doesn’t Welcome You Anymore?

I noticed this the other day as my wife and I were coming back from the Twin Cities, heading south along Highway-52 just north of the 65th St. overpass: The stone sign that said 'Rochester Welcomes You' was missing. But where did it go?!?

Behind The Scenes With Carrie Underwood And The Sunday Night Football Intro [Video]

The weather we've been experiencing lately sure feels more like September than it does late July. Add in the fact that NFL training camps are now in full swing, and it's never too early to start looking forward to this year's NFL season. And if you're a fan of Sunday Night Football, Carrie Underwood, or what goes into putting together a network TV intro (and I'm a fan of all three), here's a look behind the scenes at Carrie Underwood-- and a few of the NFL's top players-- shooting the open to this year's Sunday Night Football.

Now THAT’S How You Make A U-Turn!

I was just talking with my wife's nephew last weekend about taking your driver's test-- and how I was the only one in my family who had to take it a second time before passing. I always gave myself a pass because I took the test in my dad's 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88, which was about the size of the barge you might see on the Mississippi River. Well, after watching THIS video of a guy in an 18-wheeler pulling off a really tight u-turn, I'm guessing I don't deserve much sympathy...

Computer Pet Peeve: I Have To Change Passwords…Again?!?

Generally speaking, computers and online applications have made our lives much easier. From shopping to doing your personal banking, you can pretty much do it all online, and usually from an app on your mobile device these days. Of course, as the Target data breach showed us last fall, things are not infallible, however. So I understand that it's in everyone's best interest that our financial institution makes us change passwords to access our online checking and savings account. But is it REALLY making things more secure?

Another Reason I Love Summer In Southeastern Minnesota

Remember back to last winter, when it was 20 degrees below zero with snow banks so high at the end of your driveway that it was tough to find your mailbox?  I remember thinking I'd be SOOO grateful when summer would finally arrive. Well, of course, summer has arrived-- and last night's Charlie Worsham show at Mayo Park, part of the Down By The Riverside Concert Series was just another great part of an all-too-short summer season.

Morgan Freeman Does Jimmy Fallon Interview… On Helium! [Video]

When it comes to one-of-a-kind, unmistakable voices, nobody has a more unique-sounding voice than Morgan Freeman. When you hear him narrate a commercial or TV show, you instantly know it's him doing the voiceover.  So, what happens when Jimmy Fallon gets Morgan to inhale a little helium before doing an interview?

Stupid Human Trick: Stopping A Fan…With Your Tongue! [Video]

When I worked at a radio station back in Wisconsin, we held our own version of David Letterman's Stupid Human Tricks at the local fair every summer. So, in honor of the Olmsted County Fair, running all week long at the fairgrounds here in Rochester, I decided to do a little Stupid Human Trick of my own: stopping a running fan, with my tongue!

The Show I’m Addicted To This Summer: American Muscle

There always seems to be one show my wife and I run across during the summer-- when most of the shows we usually watch are in reruns. Last year, we started watching American Ninja Warrior on NBC, mainly because there wasn't much else new on one night. Turns out, we kind of liked it. A few years before that, I started watching Alaska State Troopers on National Graphic. Well, this year, there's another show of which I've become a fan: American Muscle, on Discovery.

Guy Throws Down Dance Moves…On A Treadmill! — [Video]

I ran my first 5K last weekend (the Bacon Chase in Minneapolis), and since then I've been actually enjoying heading out on the Cascade Lake Trail near our house and running a couple of miles outside. Before that, though, I basically stuck to the treadmill at the gym. Which can get a little monotonous -- unless you're THIS guy!
