Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

Is This The Next Viral Smash Song… Or A Joke?

I happened to see this video, entitled "Summertime Is Great" earlier today and I can't for the life of me tell if it's a legitimate song, like Rebecca Black's "Friday" from a few years ago, or is an elaborate joke, meant to go "viral" online.

Take a look (if you can bear to watch the whole thing, that is...), and let me know what you think!

My Race With A… Can?

Ever find yourself fascinated by what appears to be a very benign object? I was walking our dog Chance the other morning, and were just at the top of a very gentle hill in our neighborhood when I noticed an empty pop can that was rolling down the street right next to us.

It caught my attention because it was rolling along at pretty much the same speed Chance (who's a 35 pound Beagle mix) and I were walking.

Where’s The Weirdest Place You’ve Ever Left Your Phone?

When I left the scenic Quick Country studios, located high atop the Townsquare Media Building in downtown Rochester, yesterday evening, I accidentally left my phone behind. Of course, I didn't realize that I'd forgotten the phone until I got home and was going to recharge it. At which point, though, I started freaking out. Where's my phone?!? Did I lose it again?!?

Here’s What It Looks Like to Get Nailed Head-On by a Cement Truck

I'll take 'Things I Don't Want To See When I'm Driving' for $500, please.  A Texas A&M professor was behind the wheel of his minivan near the school's campus on Tuesday when a cement truck ran a red light, tipped over, and nailed him HEAD-ON.  Luckily, neither of the drivers were seriously injured.  And the van had a dashcam running.

The CIA Reportedly Used Which Band’s Music To ‘Torture’ Guantanamo Bay Detainees?

There's a lot of music I don't necessarily like to listen to, but I'm not sure I'd call it 'torture.' However, a new report from Al Jazeera suggests that the CIA once used Chili Peppers to 'torture' prisoners at Guantanamo Bay-- and we’re not talking the spicy tongue-burning kind.
