Seeing as Thursday is, in fact, National Beer Day, I thought I'd mark the festive occasion (and Throwback Thursday too) with a song by the classic country singer/songwriter, Tom T. Hall.

First, in case you hadn't heard, Thursday really IS National Beer Day. The website, National Day Calendar, says so. And it also says the day notes and pays tribute to one of the world's oldest prepared beverages, saying "Beer possibly dates back to 9500 BC when cereal was first farmed.  It is recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt. Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage.  Following water and tea, it is the third most popular drink overall."

April 7th was chosen as National Beer Day because it's the date the President Franklin Roosevelt "took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer in the United States, as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV)," the site says.

Now, seeing as I'm from Wisconsin, it's no surprise I'm a big beer fan. My dad is, too, and so were his parents. In fact, I remember my grandparents playing this song (on a 45 record!) when I was a kid. It's by the classic country singer/songwriter, Tom T. Hall, and is called, appropriately, "I Like Beer." Take a listen-- and cheers!
